Matlab live editor not loading, cannot launch commands in command window, hangs on opening preferences

Hi!

I am unable to open live scripts in matlab. I tried old scripts and new script, but the only thing I get is the loading symbol.

I can open .m files and view them, but when I write anything in the command window, I don't get any response. See the screenshots below.

I tried restarting and rebooting without result, closing all open files etc but with no result. Does anyone have a clue how to debug this?

My computer:

Lenovo 720 15ISK

Ubuntu LTS 18.04.1

Okay, I removed the matlab folder in usr/local/matlab and reinstalled matlab and STILL have the same problem :/ Any ideas?

Is there any caches I can empty? I removed the .matlab folder in home with no result.

If I open preferences, matlab hangs.
