Why can't I select my license file during installation or activation?

7 views (last 30 days)
I cannot select my license file when prompted by the MATLAB installer or activation client. The license file appears in the file browser, but is grayed out and cannot be selected. Typing the full path to the license file results in a "no such file" error message.

This behavior may be caused by an invalid license file extension. This often occurs when a .txt or .html extension is appended to the file name.
To check for and remove extraneous extensions:
Windows
1. Open a file browser and navigate to the license file location.
2. Right click on the file and select "Properties". The entire file name, including extension, can be viewed and edited.NOTE: If no file extension is visible, open the Windows Control Panel and launch the Folder Options dialog.
3. Change to the "View" tab and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".
Remove any extra extensions. Valid license file extensions include .lic and .dat.

macOS
1. Open a Finder window and browse to your license file.
2. Select the license file, then select "Get Info" from the Finder's "File" menu
3. Expand the "Name and Extension" section
4. Remove any extra extensions, such as .txt (valid license file extensions are .lic or .dat)
5. Closing the Get Info dialog and confirm any changes
