Why is the Parallel menu item not present when I have the Parallel Computing Toolbox installed?

The Parallel Computing Toolbox appears in the output of VER but is not present as a menu item. When the customer does a license checkout for the product and receives license manager error -5.

This error can occur when Parallel Computing Toolbox is installed but not licensed. To confirm that you have a license for this product, you can run the following command:
license checkout Distrib_Computing_Toolbox
If you get the output ANS=1, the license is working and you should be able to fix this by restarting MATLAB. Otherwise follow the troubleshooting steps for the license manager error you receive. You can troubleshoot the license manager errors by going to the support page here:
