Why do I get the message "error extracting cabinet file" or "error processing cabinet file" when installing MATLAB from downloads?

I get the following error message when installing MATLAB:

ERROR: Error extracting cabinet file: null
Error extracting archive for <product>
Error while extracting arcive file

or

ERROR: Error processing cabinet file: EOF reading <file>
Error processing archive for <product>
Error while processing arcive file

This error can occur from one or more corrupted downloaded files. You can usually tell which file has the problem based on where the installation hangs or by the error message. You can try replacing that single file, or remove all of the downloaded files and download fresh copies.

If you continue to have problems with the downloaded files, you should request to have the installation media sent to you. To request this media, contact our Customer Service department here:

If you are already using the media to install, and you are still receiving the same error, you may try the following:

If this error occurs when trying to install MATLAB, you can delete everything in the MATLAB destination folder and then try the installation again.

If this error occurs when trying to reinstall a toolbox that has already been installed, then in most cases you can delete the toolbox directories that have been created in $MATLABROOT\toolbox (where $MATLABROOT is the root MATLAB directory) before you try to install the toolbox again.

EX: $MATLABROOT\toolbox\symbolic (Symbolic Math Toolbox)
